Genetic Selection VII, Purchasing Seed & Clone Stock - Part 1

Things to consider for Seeds & Seedlings

  • Certificates of Analysis (COA) from an accredited lab (as many as possible for this stock, parent stock, sister stock, etc)
      • Certificates of Analysis (COA) from an accredited lab
        • Crop from which seed was harvested
        • Non-pollinated flower grown from that seed (which is a better measure of what you can expect the seeds to produce).
      • Germination report (suggest minimum 90%)
      • Sex test (suggest targeting 98% female)
      • What generation (f1, f2, f3, etc., (generally speaking, higher numbers indicate more stable genetics)
      • Purity test (free from noxious weeds)
      • any pesticide, herbicide, fungicide, mildicide, insecticide, etc. used on parent stock (some may become systemic)
      • Germination Rate
        • 90%+ preferred
      • Female : Male Ratio
        • 98% female min.
      • What Generation (f1, f2, f3, etc.)?
        • Generally the further along (bigger the #), the better
        • f3+ preferred
      • Phytosanitary Test
      • Purity Test
      • Were they created by open pollination or a direct application of feminized pollen?
        • If by fem pollen, where was it sourced and accompanying info (same as above) for source stock
      • Is the farm they were created at certified organic? or GMP?
      • Ask for pics/videos of all stages (germ, differentiation, veg, transition, early/middle/late bloom, post harvest, biomass, etc)
        • Same for parent, pollen donor, and sister stock
        • Any pesticide, herbicide, fungicide, mildicide, insecticide, etc. used on parent stock (some may become systemic)
